Great Size, Easy Use, Works for All Documents
This has by far been the best scanner I’ve ever used. Working in accounting, I have to scan documents in various sizes (ranging from fast station receipts to legal-sized contracts), and this scanner can handle it all. The front manual feeder is perfect for those longer receipts or cards, and the automatic top feeder is great for stacks of papers.
The scan quality is crisp and clear like if you had typed the document yourself and exported it to a PDF. The ScanSnap software saves me so much time by auto-naming files based on the information scanned (perfect for receipts to differentiate card numbers!). This file naming system is clever and accurate in the data pulled. The only time I have to manually adjust the name of a file is if a pre-selected field doesn’t exist on the document scanned (e.g., including the last 4 digits of the card used in the file name, but a receipt not having that info).
I hate cords, so this scanner having wireless connectivity is perfect for my needs. Once it’s connected, it stays connected and there is no delay in the transfer from the scanner to my computer.
The value for your money couldn’t be better. I would argue that this smaller scanner is even better than the more expensive version just given the manual front feeder, let alone the price of this unit.
I’ve seen some other reviews about this scanner not working or only connecting to a single computer at a time and can confirm it is user error; I share this scanner with a colleague and we can both use it with ease throughout the day.
A Game changer for me
Heavily into downsizing, this unit has made it a whole lot easier to eliminate a lot of paper from my life. I thought about the more expensive ix1600, but that's not only more expensive, it's larger and heavier, plus it doesn't have the front slot to scan single items that don't work well in the sheet feeder --- I use that a lot. And I don't need an LCD display, this (ix1300) unit is small and light enough it's easy to have the software setup for multiple PC's and just move it to scan right next to a PC in our house, and I prefer seeing things on the larger computer screen anyway.
One interesting caveat: while the included OCR software is wonderful, it's very much tied to the scanner itself. So while I can create a searchable PDF with the scanner from physical paper documents, if I wanted to convert an existing PDF to be a searchable PDF, there is no way to do that, short of printing it only to then scan the resulting paper. OCR software isn't cheap, so this is understandable, but worthwhile knowing this limitation.
Overall I'm very pleased with this unit. It's one of those things that I just didn't even know existed, an excellent standalone scanner that's so very much (VERY much) better than using the scanner bed part of a typical printer.
Recommended.
This scanner is amazing...
I have been buying, owning & operating tech gadgets since the late 70's and this scanner ranks up there with the best on that list.
Just look at these features:
a) USB or Wi-Fi option
b) compact size - easy to pull out when needed and then store for later - not a lot of desk space
c) duplex scans of standard paper document in about 2 seconds each
d) duplex scans photos at 600dpi in about 5 seconds each
e) auto top feeder (about 10 sheets) or manual front feed
We have another brand's multi-function color laser unit that we bought several years ago (for a good chunk of cash) which has served us well. However when the wife suggested we scan all our old photos (boxes & boxes of loose photos and shelves of photo albums) - I knew I was not going to spend years scanning two or three photos at a time with that thing's flatbed scanner.
I read the reviews and most suggest another brand's scanner that is almost twice the price of this one. I decided to take a chance and be a bit more thrifty and it has worked out more than I could have hoped for. Mostly that decision came down to this model's manual front feeder.
In one week I have spent about 4 hours with this scanner and have scanned almost 1k photos. The most time-consuming part is taking the photos out of the albums. I just pop them in the front manual feeder and then let the scanner spit it back out where the photo then drops into a bin underneath for disposal - each photo takes about 5 seconds scanning at 600dpi and the quality is good enough (note: the quality really depends on how good the original photo looks. those old 70's polaroid's are not going to scan and then be able to printed at 24"x36" size down the line - let's be realistic - but they look good enough to me on the computer reviewing them afterwards).
My only wish is that it could scan at 1200dpi but that would certainly jack up the price. There are a few pictures which we put aside to scan with the multi-function scanner for this reason because those pictures have more sentimental value.
I had two occasions this past week needing to scan a full-size paper bill and decided to use this instead of the multi-function. It scans a piece of paper both-sides so fast that it is done before you blink.
The software is very basic but it is completely functional. Since this is just a scanner I am glad the software just concerns itself with the simple scan settings and not image manipulation or PDF editing. I have purpose-made software to do that other stuff.
Small footprint, beautiful looking, optimum function, right price... totally groovy!
I've had 2 Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners for at least 10 years that have worked great. I needed another small duplex scanner for one of my health care offices to scan insurance cards and driver's licenses.
I opted for price and first ordered the Brother DS-740D Duplex Compact Mobile Document Scanner. What a piece of junk, lousy interface and zero support. RETURNED!
A buddy of mine with over 40 clinics' secretary recommends Ambir. That's what she has on her desk. So I figure, good enough for them, good enough for me, and order the Ambir Technology PS667 Simplex A6 Card for the sake of price. It's not duplex, and that is a pain in the butt. You have to manually turn the card over and scan twice. I can't live with that. RETURNED!
So I bite the bullet and buy the Ambir DS490-A3P ImageScan Pro 490i Duplex ID Card and Document Scanner. It has a nice small footprint, and is decent hardware, but the interface was somewhat wonky, and it only scanned cards. I thought maybe I could do better, so... RETURNED! Thank you and sorry Ambir.
Searching further, I discover this affordable, Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1300 Compact Wi-Fi Document Scanner in white, that duplex scans cards, and documents, the best of both worlds. I figure, "Okay, let's give it a chance".
I receive it. It's a small box. I open it and remove the scanner carefully like it's a baby. It is a baby! It's a small footprint, low profile, beautifully designed, smooth, white rectangular box with nothing sticking out. It's like the monolith sideways in "2001 a Space Oddyssey", smooth and futuristic. It's a baby like Grogu in the Mandalorian, tiny and cute, big on power and character like Yoda!
To scan cards, there is a slot on the bottom, with nothing to open. You just place the card partly into the slot, press the scan button, which lights up blue, and zip-zip, in and out. The interface is simple and perfect, and the card is digitized! Once you do one scan, you don't need to press the scan button again. It's awakened and takes cards automatically when introduced into the slot.
Finally, there is the greatest surprise ever, the multi-document scanning function. You look at this box and think, "Nah, this is not a full-bore scanner like most ScanSnap scanners. How could a little box like this do it all?" Then you open up the lid and PRESTO! The most wonderful thing happens. The document scanner unfolds like a peacock, or a space telescope being deployed from a space shuttle cargo bay into full array expansion. Then, you put a stack of papers into the feed, and zip-zip, you've got scanned documents. And again, the interface is perfectamundo!!! You close up the box with one gesture, and presto-changeo, it's a cute little box again. A box you respect and love!
All I can say is, it tickles me everytime I use this groovy littl Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1300 Compact Wi-Fi Document Scanner. Fujitsu, you have outdone yourself. Wow! Let's do lunch sometime and laugh at the affordable incredibleness you've created, together!!! :)
Best WiFi Scanner in the Market Plus works with Evernote!!!
This is by far one of the best Scanner both for USB to laptop or Wifi scanning to laptop. Even scan directly to the Evernote desktop app (Apple MacBook Pro).
I am an Evernote user and have been using the discontinued super old iX1100 scanner that lasted me 15+ years.
It was time to get a new scanner. This time, I wanted the additional WiFi scanning capability and double-sided scanning for a faster archiving process.
I first tried the Epson ES-60W and ES-300W. Both models were impossible to set up the WiFi scanning feature. I tried at least 6x for each printer including following both the app setup guide and the troubleshooting guide. Returned both models.
Got the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1300 and first off, this baby is gorgeous looking (got the white version) with so many delightful features I did not expect I needed!!
I love the following features:
-when lifting the top paper tray, then push the tray back a bit, the extender paper holder will automatically move up 90 degrees.
-auto-feed, and return scan, you will need space to feed the paper in front of the printer
-the U-Turn scan, when you insert a piece of paper to scan on the top loader tray, press the scan button, the paper starts the scan process feeding into the scanner then the front paper tray automatically pops up delightfully to hold the return of the scanned paper. This is an amazing feature, you no longer need space in front or behind the scanner to feed your paper. This is one of the best scanning features I have seen. Thanks Fujitsu!!! I can watch this magic all day long >_<
-and of course the WiFi scanning directly to my Evernote app on my laptop...Woot woot. This feature alone saves me so much time scanning all of my receipts and documents.
-the paper tray with the paper tray extender is a nice feature
-Setup was a breeze. Super easy.
-Took less than 10 mins to set up and ready to go.
-After setting up the USB scanning, I then opt to also set up for WiFi scanning and that was super easy.
-The ScanSnap app setup the WiFi and auto-configures all of the WiFi settings. I did not have to input anything manually. Awesome.
The printer is cleverly designed and I so much appreciate the thoughtfulness of the feature-rich function and the practicality of the product. A huge plus for the super easy ScanSnap setup and scanning software.
I suspect this model will last me at least another 10-15+ years :)
